Changing the Group Head Gasket of your Espresso Coffee Maker

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Machines wear out. Parts need to be changed. But all too often we don’t realise this and think that our coffee machines are simply faulty. We set them aside and stop using them until we get around to sending the away for service or repair. And sometimes that never happens. What a waste.

Perhaps you’ve noticed that water drips from your portafilter when you’re pulling your shot of espresso? Or perhaps it takes a couple of attempts to lock in the portafilter tightly? Don’t worry. Your machine isn’t broken. You probably just need to change the gasket.

The grouphead gasket in most espresso coffee makers, like the Tecnora Cremiere 106A and the New Classico 107M, suffers the usual wear and tear from normal use. You’ll need to change it regularly. It’s a relatively simple process.

When you remove the screen protecting the grouphead, you might find it hard to see the gasket itself. This is because the rubber will carbonise with heat and it will blend. If this is your first time changing the gasket, you might have to chisel out the brittle pieces. Ice picks are good for this. Or tweezers. Make sure you remove all the old bits and pieces and clear that groove thoroughly before replacing the gasket itself. For the rubber ring to do its job, the groove has to be completely free of all residue.
